Ulma's Thermoformer gives Maxpax the maximum factor for incup drinks production

A newly-established supplier to the vending industry has been so impressed with Ulma Packaging’s TFS 400 Thermoformer for vacuum wrapping paper cups that it is set to invest in a second machine to meeting the growing demand for its products.

With consumers’ appetite for fast, hot convenience drinks ‘on the go’ showing no signs of abating, business is booming for Gloucestershire-based Maxpax Ltd*, which counts Knorr Soups and Bovril savoury drinks among its Incup range of drinks.

Maxpax’s ongoing expansion plans at its Newent site required a bespoke thermoformer for an automated packing line of 76mm paper cups containing powdered drinks. It chose the TFS 400 ahead of a competitor’s machine because of Ulma’s attention to detail, commitment to excellent customer service and the exceptional quality of the equipment.

Vacuum wrapping 525 paper cups per minute in packs of 25, the thermoformer is not yet running at full capacity because it is four times faster than Maxpax’s current packing line, but with the company set to add a popular coffee brand in 76mm cups to its product range, it will almost certainly order another TFS 400 from Ulma “in the near future”.

Managing director of Maxpax Limited, Kevin Mason, said: “We have been delighted with the TFS 400. In fact the whole service we received from Ulma Packaging has been excellent – from the salesperson to the project manager, designer and builder. The way Ulma go about their business is incredible – customer service is second to none. From the planning stage to the build they did everything asked of them and more.

“The machine is so versatile we can now produce a deep base cup as well as a standard cup. I did look at more than one company but Ulma impressed me straight away and they have not disappointed. We have plans to add lots more flavours to our vending range and if all goes well we will be looking to source another machine from Ulma.”

Ulma’s TFS thermoforming machines range from the TFS 400 up to TFS 700 skin, with the 500 and 600 as intermediate models. They provide a vacuum pack that protects the product and can use a range of technical films.

The TFS 400’s characteristics make it highly desirable for mixed production requirements, since formats can be easily adapted to meet the needs of the customer. Versatility, easy operation and quick size change add to the appeal.

Ulma offers different types of thermoformed skin packaging including universal skin pack, skin pack with non-forming bottom flexible film, isopack skin pack, simple isopack skin pack and double lid skin pack.

All the TFS models have been designed to perform beyond the most stringent requirements, with ergonomics and ease of use in mind and boasting accessibility, hygienic anti-bacterial design, resistance to corrosion, high IP protection level, reduction of stagnant liquids and multiple certifications
